Junior Chowder Cup Camp & Tournament
The Chowder Cup Tournaments are the premier national tournament for young players born in 1996-1997 and/or 1992-1995. Each year, hundreds of players from worldwide teams aim to impress scouts and coaches from all over as they compete for the Chowder Cup Championship. We believe the best way to showcase individual players is through team excellence. Using dynamic practices, off-ice team building exercises, community meals and dorm living, players will compete as a TEAM against hundreds of teams from across the country.
Our Chowder Cup AAA Boarding Camps + Tournament Team Try-Outs will feature 40 players who will battle for a spot on one of our Walpole Express teams. The final rosters will be announced the evening prior to the start of the tournament (at the end of the first half of the Boarding Camp). Players that are chosen will compete in their respective Chowder Cup Tournament's at the Iorio Arena.
We have assembled a staff of highly qualified professional coaches to put you through an intense week of on and off ice training and drills.
Coaching
Chowder Cup Coaches:
These coaches include former NHL player and current Walpole Express championship coach Mark Kumpel, Express General Manager and Coach Tony Dalessio, Express Junior B Head Coach Mike Tenney, Coaches of the Express affiliate Cranston Jr Reds, Dennis Doherty and Dave Capuano and current Worcester Sharks Assistant Coach David Cunniff.
During the Week
Our highly experienced coaches will cover all aspects of the game. This is not a camp that is used for conditioning, skating technique or skills. Coaches will be going over fore-checking, back checking, neutral zone traps, power plays, penalty killing, angling, face-offs, etc. Between ice sessions, players will be doing class room talks and Video and Systems technique training which will included positional breakdown of forwards and defenseman, situational chalk talk of how to approach and react to game situations, systems work (players will learn about all hockey systems), fore checking systems, D-zone coverage’s, breakouts, controlled breakouts, traps, power plays and penalty killing. Players will participate in Daily Scrimmages, Chalk Talks and a team bonding BBQ early in the week.
Lodging
In addition to the elite coaching and training, players will have the opportunity to reside in our dorm facility located on the Iorio Arena grounds giving every participant a chance to experience what it’s like to live in a college dorm setting. Players will also have use of our Junior A and B locker rooms (equipped with de-humidification system) for storing and proper drying of equipment.
